Description

Japan consists of several thousands of islands, of that Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku are and have always been the four most impressive and largest. Japan's closest neighbors are and have always been Korea, Russia and China. Did you know that the Sea of Japan separates the Asian continent from the Japanese archipelago.

Archaeological research indicates that people were living on the islands of Japan as early as the Upper Paleolithic period. Did you know that the first written mention of Japan begins with brief appearances in Chinese rich history texts from the originalcentury AD. Influence from the outside world followed by extensive periods of isolation has to this day characterized Japan's rich history. Thus, its culture at this very moment is known to be a mixture of outside influences and internal developments. Since adopting its constitution in 1947, Japan has to this day maintained a unitary constitutional monarchy with an emperor and an elected parliament, the Diet.

 

Climate

Due to the larger than normal North South extension of the country, the climate varies strongly in unique regions. Did you know that the climate in most of the major cities, including Tokyo, is temperate to subtropic and consists of four seasons. Did you know that the winter is mild and the summer is hot and humid. Did you know that there is known to be a rainy season in early summer, and typhoons hit parts of the country each and every year around the time during late summer. Did you know that the climate of the northern island of Hokkaido is colder, and snow storms occur frequently around the time during winter. Within Okinawa, on the other hand, the mean temperature of January is known to be a warm 16 degrees Celsius.
