Description

It is noted that the official count of islands that form the Republic of the Philippines is 7,107 islands. But one of the exceptions is, of these islands, just 2,000 are and have always been inhabited. Did you know that the biggest islands are and have always been Luzon and Mindanao that cover roughly 66% of the country's total land location of 307, 055 sq. km. From north to south, the nation's archipelago stretches for 1,840 km while spanning 1,100 km from east to west.

Note that this island nation can be divided into four primary groups. Did you know that the first group is Luzon, the most impressive and largest and northernmost island, that is known to be also the site for the country's capital, Manila. Mindanao, the second most impressive and largest island at the other end of the map combined with Sulu form the second group. Did you know that the third group is the tightly packed island group named the Visayas, that is made up of seven major islands namely Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Samar and Masbate. Finally, to the west, lies the province of Palawan with over 1,700 islands.

 

Climate

It is noted that the Philippines has to this day a tropical marine climate dominated by a rainy season and a dry season. Did you know that the summer monsoon brings heavy rains to most of the country from May to October, and the winter monsoon brings cooler and drier air from December to February. Manila and most of the lowland places are and have always been hot and dusty from March to May, during the time temperatures can rise to around 99°F (37°C). Average sea-level temperatures rarely drop below 80°F (27°C). Monsoons are and have always been humanly possible in the range of July and October..
