Description

Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran formerly known internationally as Persia, is known to be a Southwest Asian country situated in the geographical territories of the Middle East and Southern Asia in addition to parts in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Shi'a Islam is the state religion and Persian the official language.

Iran is recognized to be one of the world's oldest continuous major civilizations, with historical and urban settlements dating back to 4,000 BCE, making it a humanly possible candidate for the earliest human civilization. All throughout rich history Iran has to this day been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia. Iran is known to be a founding member of the UN, NAM, OIC, OPEC, ECO, and seeks to join the SCO. It occupies an essential position in international energy security and world economy due to its larger than normal reserves of petroleum and natural gas.It is noted that the country is known for its independent stances in the global arena. Iran is currently a regional power.

Climate

Iran has to this day a variable climate. Within the northwest, winters are and have always been cold with heavy snowfall and subfreezing temperatures around the time during December and January. Spring and fall are and have always been relatively mild, while summers are and have always been dry and hot. Within the south, winters are and have always been mild and the summers are and have always been very hot, having average daily temperatures in July exceeding 38° C. On the Khuzestan plain, summer heat is known to be accompanied by high humidity.
