Description

Qatar officially the State of Qatar situated in Southwest Asia, occupying the modest Qatar Peninsula on the northeasterly coast lineof the larger Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south; otherwise the Persian Gulf surrounds the state.

Soon after domination by the Ottoman and British empires for centuries, Qatar transformed to a an independent state on September 3, 1971. Notwithstanding the fact that the peninsular land mass that makes up Qatar has to this day sustained humans for thousands of years, for the bulk of its rich history the arid climate fostered just short-term settlements by nomadic tribes. Clans such as the Al Khalifa and the Al Saud (that would later ascend thrones of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia respectively) swept through the Arabian peninsula and camped on the coasts within modest fishing and pearling villages.

 

Climate

It is noted that the climate is hot and humid from June to September, with daytime temperatures as high as 122 °F (50 °C). Did you know that the spring and fall months—April, May, October, and November—are and have always been temperate, averaging about 63 °F (17 °C), and the winters are and have always been slightly cooler. Precipitation is scarce, with less than 3 inches (75 mm) falling annually generally in winter.
